Finally updating on what went on last week since I was too busy trying to set up this domain at that time. :)

It’s my mum’s 48th birthday. We both are exactly 30 years apart. I love how our age, the last digit corresponds with the last digit of the year. You’ll never forget your age. Best that I give birth when I’m 30 years old too, so that my child’s age will correspond with the last digit of the year. Dun tell me to get pregnant when I’m 20! Cause I won’t! :p

We din celebrate or anything. In fact my mum din even realize it was her birthday. Typical. She sometimes forget mine too. Anyway she took me New World Park for lunch. Just us two. Kinda like mother-daughter bonding time eh?

nwp31.jpg

Actually, she’s trying to let me eat all the wonderful Penang food before I leave for Australia, nice gesture I know. But I kinda rather she let me drive on my own so I can go out whenever I want. It isn’t too bad this way either. I get free food since she’s paying. :)

How much does one need to spend on food in a month in Australia anyway? My mum & I are negotiating my allowance for Melbourne. If you have any idea, drop me a comment please & let me know. :)

This was our first time to New World Park. I know loads of people have already been there, so hush, I’m still going to put up pictures of the place.

We wanted to eat at the Lok Lok restaurant but the guy said have to wait 10 more minutes or so. Then we ended up exploring the place first. Seems like everywhere we go, Chinese decorations are up, just for Chinese New Year which is on 7th February. Why do people rush to put up all the Chinese decoratios so early? Early bird catches the worm? Even my house isn’t decorated with the Chinese stuff yet. Soon maybe, but not this early.

I adore the signboards there. Funky.

The stage was being set up & all for the opening ceremony of New World Park. I din stay to watch tho. All the big names in Penang probably attended. Mum wanted to leave as soon as we finished eating so that she won’t be caught in the jam.

Actually she prefers staying home & eating in instead of out. But like I said, it’s for me. :)

Then we came across the food court there. Walk around to see what food they’re selling & I saw this!

hawker2.jpg

Fish meat bee hoon ( fried fish meat with noodles in soup). Been a couple of years since I last ate a bowl of this. Mum was never keen on hawker food. In fact I first ate Hokien Mee when I was 14 in my school canteen. Pathetic I know. Deprived of hawker food childhood.

That settled it, we can always eat Lok Lok another day. Since it was so empty, we just took the table right in front of the fish meat bee hoon stall. After that when we wanted dessert we moved to another table that is just next to the dessert stall. Funny.

The food at the food court is more expensive than hawker stalls elsewhere. Take this bowl of fish meat bee hoon for example. Few pieces of fish meat, but cost RM4.50 a bowl. Very delicious tho. Love the bee hoon.

Oh, & dun take the coconut. RM2.50 each & it’s not even cold. They din bother to keep it in the fridge. Not sweet either. Tasted just like water. And forget about the coconut meat, cause there’s none. It’s a really old coconut. Only has the juice but no meat. Not worth it at all. They shouldn’t bother to give me a spoon too. Nothing to scrape.

When lunch hour arrived, more & more people came to the food court. Business people on their lunch breaks, etc…

Mum & I ordered this for dessert:

Ice kacang & Chendol

It’s really been years since I’ve last eaten chendol & ice kacang. We kept switching bowls with each other. I must say the Chendol was great!

I saw a stall selling these CNY goodies. One reason why I love CNY besides ang pow (red packet) of course, is the CNY goodies. No other time of year can I get these. :) So I said the magic words to my mum. “I WANT!”

& there we have it…

food41.jpg

Suppose to be RM47 but my mum told him to discount a bit since we’re not buying just one. Paid RM45, save RM2. Always buy in bulk. :p

Left New World Park to go to Gurney Plaza. Had to buy groceries. & also a new printer. Oh yeah.

printer1.jpg

Went up to House of Notebooks to buy a HP printer.

I left my brother & mum to set it up, install it & connect it up to our wireless network. Seems like too much trouble for me. Haha. I hate installing printers. They do take an awful long time.

Mum decided it was time for me to get a hair cut so she took me to her hair stylist at Island Plaza. I can’t remember the name of the shop but I think it was called something like Hair Flair. Maybe not. Can’t remember.

Before that mum & I had breakfast at Coffee Bean. The usual Salmon Scramble for her & Food for Thought for me. :) It’s been some time since I’ve eaten anything strawberry. Not even the fruit itself so you can forget about strawberry jam. I just dun like the taste & smell of it. Kinda reminds me of medicine. With my Food for Thought came slices of bread & strawberry jam for me to spread it on. I decided to give it a try again. So I smeared strawberry jam over a part of my bread instead of the entire slice of bread in case it tastes horrible.

First bite: Not bad.

Second bite: Okay, too sweet! Gross! & I stopped eating that bread.

I’m still gonna stay away from strawberries flavored stuff from now on. Maybe I’ll try the fruit again instead.

When we went up to the hairstylist place, people were already there having their hair done. Ahhhh. The mad mad CNY rush to get all their hair done in time for CNY. Kinda crazy huh. So I had to wait cause my mum’s hair stylist was busy with other customers. No biggie. Read magazines. When it was my turn I look around & saw even more people were waiting. Gosh. As he was cutting for me, people kept calling in to make appointments. He was booked until 5 something that day & when he was cutting my hair it was only 11 something.

After that my mum came back to collect me. Yeah, I had to wait for her cause I din bring money so have to wait for her to come back & pay. She’s happy with my hair now, & she said I should have some highlights. Great, you wait till I finished with my hair cut then only say so! Now I can’t have hightlights cause there are just too many people getting their hair done everyday & more as CNY draws closer. Never mind. I’ll just stay naturally black.

Mum wanted to go to Metrojaya’s Shishedo counter to buy her face stuff like masks, etc… She bought don’t know how much worth of products & they give you voucher for how much you spend in the store I think. Anyway she had these vouchers. So she asked me to pick something from the Shishedo counter. So I picked an eye liner for RM69. Sort of a two in one. Black on one side & white on the other. Then my mum came to see too & she found something she liked. Gold eye shadow which cost RM75. Guess I should have picked a more expensive one too. :)

I think I prefer my last hairstyle. What do you think? Do I look better with hair framing my face or without? Oh well, I’m still stuck with this hairstyle. I guess I could tie it up when I want to tho there won’t be much to tie.

Bear in mind in this photo, I fluffed up my hair using wax. My hair is kinda flat now. He cut off too much I think.

I’ve decided to change luggage. :)

Not gonna take this one as my carry on anymore. Heavy & huge yes.

This will be my new carry-on although it’s a bit small. Anyway, I’ve decided any clothes I can’t fit into my luggage I’ll just ship it in to Melbourne. Yup. By ship. Not plane. It’s gonna take awhile to reach. Say maybe 3 months?

These are the rates for Pos Malaysia (Malaysia to Australia).

Surface Parcel:

(RM30.30)
< 5 Kg
(RM36.80)
< 10 Kg
(RM 51.50)

(RM 64.50)
< 20 Kg
(RM 82.20)
Maximum
Weight

Affordable yah? Cheaper than paying for bringing extra luggage on board the plane.

  1. i wish food was as cheap as RM 2.50 = SGD 1 in Singapore :( they are almost inexistent nowadays :( it is so difficult to find something which costs SGD 1 in hawker centers.

I preferred your previous hairstyle, it looked better on you but nonetheless …

  2. Haha. You mean even drinks cost more than SGD 1 in Singapore?

Awww. I too prefer my previous hairstyle. My mum’s big idea. Oh well. I think my hair shouldn’t frame my face.

  3. i was referring to food, a soft drink in a hawker center would instantly cost you $1.20 - 1.30
